Let’s Grow the Church in the “Off-Season”

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Summer is here and the pace of parish life is supposed to slow down. I say this some qualification because the week before the official start of summer, there were three deaths in the community. This coincided with a surge in food festival preparation, interviewing candidates for the Director of the Preschool, getting workers to staff the fireworks booth and gearing up for Vacation Church school. In other words, parish life goes on, because the work of the Church is 24-7 and ‘God never takes a vacation.’ But let’s be honest. The “high season” for church attendance is behind us and no matter what I say or do, far fewer people will be in church. However, my concern is not the number of people in church as much as why we are in church in the first place, as it relates to outreach and evangelism. Read More »
